Behind the tall hedges of the affluent, gated community of Apple Tree Creek, not all is as it seems …
Out of the blue, Gertie’s husband decides they need a break and he’s leaving her with their three children.
Two streets east and three gardens down, successful businesswoman Rachael discovers her husband has cheated on her – again – even though she’s pregnant with his third child. Thrown together by a chance encounter, the two women bond over the shared disaster that is their marriages.
But did one husband push his wife too far? When the ambulance sirens cut through the serenity of Apple Tree Creek, the small community is shocked at the violence that’s played out in their midst. CCTV reveals no outsiders visited the estate that night, confirming that the assailant must have been one of their own.
Is the culprit still living among them? And why didn’t any of the cameras, designed to keep them all safe, catch anything? As the web of neighbourly relationships unravels and the workings of their inner lives are exposed, questions will be asked, but not everyone wants to learn the answers.
You can only push people so far.

Early Reader Reviews:
‘A riveting domestic thriller with an explosive climax’.
This is what bestselling authors have to say about ‘One of Us’
“An utterly addictive read, ‘One of Us’ was full of intrigue and mystery with captivating characters and one twist after another that I never saw coming! Loved every moment”
Nicola Moriarty, Author of ‘You Need To Know’ and ‘The Ex.’
This gripping domestic thriller takes us inside two families with multiple secrets, and follows their stories to an explosive climax. These characters are so real – Kylie Kaden provides fascinating insights into the intricate relationships between wives and husbands, children and teenagers. This compelling page-turner touches on many of today’s hot topics – coercive control, parenting styles, online gaming addiction, interfering neighbours, and the terrifying power of smartphones and social media. I loved the friendship between Gertie and Rachael as they supported each other through difficult times. One of Us will keep you wondering what really happens inside a marriage.
Petronella McGovern, Author of ‘Six Minutes’ and ‘The Good Teacher’
‘One of Us’ takes us behind the picket fence – and wow! – what a fabulously tangled mess it proves to be! This is a darkly funny depiction of imperfection in a perfect suburb. But more than that it asks what wouldn’t a mother do to protect her child? Kylie Kaden has produced a thoroughly entertaining read that’s sure to please any reader who likes their domestic noir with a side-serving of wit and humour.

“The connection between Frankie and Jack is electric. The more that I read of Losing Kate, the harder it was to believe that this is Kylie’s debut release. As I stated on Goodreads, shortly after reading it, Kaden writes with a voice that belies her newcomer status. This was so beautifully written and I cannot wait to read more from this fabulous new Australian author.” Roz – My Written Romance
“Kylie Kaden has rightfully gained a place on my bookshelf with this knock-out debut interweaving love and jealousy, loss and redemption, while also exploring those carefree, hazy, lazy summer days of our childhood. Five out of five.” Book Muster Down Under
“For a first novel this is a sensational read. It had me from the first chapter and I never lost interest. It is beautifully written with some amusing Aussie slang thrown in. I’m definitely waiting for the next book from this new Australian author.” Goodreads – Sharryn’s Reviews
“This is quite an incredible story and for a “first time” author quite remarkable…The whole saga makes for an amazing read and nail biting mystery complete with an incredible twist in the final pages…The entire process of travelling from the past to the present is seemless and professionally handled. A great story to acquaint yourself with and one I have no hesitation in recommending.” Mick Gillies
“What a great story! A debut from Aussie author Kylie Kaden, I feel confident in saying she is here to stay. The mystery was well done with an authentic twist at the end, also the moving from past to current day worked really well. I have no hesitation in recommending this novel highly.” Brenda1
“Kaden’s romance is a solid debut, with convincing tension in the mystery great sense of place, and an engaging voice. One to watch!” Lauredhel
“I don’t know how to begin this review. This book was compelling, mesmerising, I couldn’t put it down and I totally felt for Francesca (for Fray/Frankie), Jack and even Kate… I will certainly look for the authors next offering.” Marlin1

I’ve just listened to auditions for narrators for One Of Us with Bolinda Audio and I believe they hope to have it out with the paperback version on 3rd May.I will also check out Lisa Jewel! Name is familiar but don’t think I have read hers, so that’s for the tip. ps I’m always told to promote my work more and prefer it to come from someone else, so do you mind if I share this at some point (without your details) on social media? All the best, xx K
Of course, you can share anything I say.
You deserve praise for your work.
I’m going to suggest your books to my book club friends.
I can’t say I loved one more then another because I loved them all.
The order I read them was, The Day the Lies began, Losing Kate, Missing You.
How I started was, The Day the lies began was a Daily Deal on Audible and I purchase it.
After reading or (listening) to it I googled books by you, and now I’m hooked.
Best!!
